Challenges#
Researchers examining policy instrument data related to energy and the climate need a standardized way to code data from text documents, so that the data is machine-readable and easily comparable to other data.
Solutions#
The Climate and Energy Policy Ontology (CEPO) catalogs terminology that describes policy instruments and targets related to sustainable energy transition. It forms the semantic base for the Climate Policy Atlas, a web portal for exploring energy-related policy data. Researchers use CEPO to annotate policy documents, improving data interoperability and helping to highlight connections between data.
OEO Connection#
- CEPO’s entity structure and development workflows are based on those of the OEO.
- CEPO was designed for interoperability with the OEO, using BFO and some OEO terms as a base for initial development.
- Like the OEO, CEPO follows the ENERO Foundry principles.
